Mount Isa-born Scott Prince, who played league at the national and international level and has a career spanning more than 20 years, will be a special guest at the 2021 Mount Isa Mines Rodeo thanks to rodeo partner, DD Group International.
The talented former half back, who is only the second player to play for all three Queensland teams in the top level – Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys and the Gold Coast Titans, said he was looking forward to this year’s rodeo where he will appear as a Brand Ambassador for DD Group International.
“I am looking forward to visiting some local schools before the rodeo starts, and also meeting DD Group International clients at the event, and helping out at some of the chute tours and REX Fanzone,” said Scott.
The former State of Origin and Rugby League World Cup star was recently appointed a Brand Ambassador for DD Group International, a Queensland business specialising in workwear, safety consumable and site hire solutions owned by Mount Isa born and bred John and Tanya Macnamara, who operate Mount Isa and Brisbane offices.
DD Group International owner Tanya Macnamara and CEO John Macnamara said they were proud to working with Scott as a Brand Ambassador and also as a Major Partner of the 2021 Mount Isa Mines Rodeo.
“John and I are avid fans of the rodeo and we both have fond memories of attending previous events,” said Tanya. “Particularly our family ties surrounding the first rodeos and my parents volunteering at the event over the years.”
Although now Brisbane-based, the couple retain strong links to Mount Isa through opening a local branch of DD Group International. John did his boilermaker trade at Mount Isa Mines and Tanya’s father worked for MIM for almost 40 years. In another link with MIM, Scott’s father also worked for the mines until he retired.
Mount Isa Mines Rodeo Chief Executive Officer Natalie Flecker said it was exciting to have hometown hero Scott return for rodeo.
“We are fortunate to have the support of partners like DD Group International who are so strongly supportive of their local community,” she said.
The largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere is being held 12 to 15 August, following a virtual event in 2020.
Ms Flecker said the nation’s top cowboys and cowgirls would compete in eight rodeo events – bull riding, saddlebronc, bareback, ladies barrel race, team roping, rope and tie, steer wrestling and breakaway roping. Nightly concerts will feature Australian entertainment legends Guy Sebastian and Lee Kernaghan, supported by Casey Barnes and Mick Lindsay, plus live shows by the Shank Brothers, along with a free rodeo street festival presented by the Mount Isa City Council; Mailman Express horse races, bush poetry breakfast and more.
